Glee and Modern Family are two of the most gay-friendly shows on television, so it’s no wonder they tied for Best Television Comedy at the annual GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Awards on Sunday night, April 10.

Featuring gay and lesbian characters in central roles, the lauded shows both push for a greater acceptance of the LGBT community among Americans.

In keeping with that theme, frequent Glee guest star Kristin Chenoweth (April Rhodes) was also honored with the organization’s Vanguard Award, “which is handed out annually by GLAAD to those who increase visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.” Kristin won for defending Sean Hayes against aNewsweek article that claimed openly gay men couldn’t play straight characters.
