doing battle with walmart, trying to get more studios and cable/tv channels on board, holding back the RIAA with a chair and a whip...apple is doing a lot to revolutionize digital media distribution, and i'm appreciative of this. but at what point will this take it's toll on macintosh computers? will apples legal and business battles compromise technological development?

No. Please god no. I don't know how many of you have done e-books but e-books on anything smaller then a 4" screen sucks. HARD.
What Apple needs to do is come out with a dedicated device. Integration seems the only way they can push into another market at this point. (Shades of MS Windows with [insert anything here.] integration.)
What Apple needs to do is form an alliance with E-Reader / Peanut Press and having it integrate with iTMS. Then come out with an e book reader that uses digital ink. This is the tech that can paint a screen then cut power to the screen yet still have the image remain. In cases such as this we are talking WEEKS of battery life. Use digital ink + Apple's standard design flare + iTMS and I can guarantee people will eat it up.
Does anyone know how big this would be? It would be huge. No beyond huge. Literature is as universally accepted as music. It's used everywhere from text books in schools, to training manuals, to maintenance manuals, to entertainment in the home, to entertainment while you are sitting waiting for the dentist. Imagine subscribing to a magazine and having it downloaded off of iTMS like a podcast.
In short I would sell my first, second, third born sons, and cut off a pinky toe for Apple to release an e-book reader. This is Sony's attempt:
http://dynamism.com/images/extra/DSCN0862.jpg
No one in the market has done the design right yet. There is this huge market waiting for someone to step up to the plate and get it done right, easy, and elegant. Sound familiar?
But above all please PLEASE PLEASE dont integrate it into the iPod. It would be doing major disservice to the emerging industry.
On second thought, silicon addict, you just might be right. big enough to read on just might be too big for the ipod. hrm.

My thoughts are the same, people honestly believe that wwdc is just the keynote
It's the only part I (and a lot of people on this site) really care about. Is that such a big deal?

it would not surprise me at all to see MBP's announced in the next couple of days in the same way this was announced; press release + updated store.
that way the 12th can be "and before we get into itunes stuff, lets recap: look at all this new stuff....."
edit: yeah. what hecubus said!

yeah, I just purchased that one with burgundy bag :)
Was going to get the black as it would have been similar priced when you upgrade the white version to 120gb. But 100+ for an extra 40gb isn't worth it
Congratulations...what's the estimated shipping time?

Toys R Us? Seriously? What a bizzarre place to buy a tablet PC. I guess we'll be seeing them with the Fisher Price laptops.
I think it's more odd that Toys R Us wants it. It's so far off their normal product type, but it could be that Toys R Us is looking for new segments to open
You're right, it is, they usually stick to HP, ASUS and Toshiba Laptops :
http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3634444
Did you even bother to look up what Toys r' Us sells before making that comment ? This isn't a "new segment to open".
in order to try and save their business????
Why is every business but Apple struggling and looking to save themselves ? Why is it everytime a company other than Apple is mentionned around this forum, it has to be close to bankruptcy and desperate to generate revenue and relevency ?
News flash, a lot of businesses aren't struggling at all, even if they aren't associated with Apple.

Why do we need a part 13?
Because the forum software has trouble with threads over 2000 posts, so ongoing threads get split into new parts around that point.

Who cares about Flash? Most of the time it's used, it's because the web designers are too dumb or lazy to get the page right without it, because they haven't kept out with what a modern browser is capable of.
Hey I hate Flash more than most but in this case Adobe has a clear case of doing the right thing...
Imagine just for a moment you were in charge of Flash at Adobe.... Okay, STOP! before you erase its entire existance off the Adobe corp. servers (and back ups) lol -- take a second and check your email and what's that you find? X hundred? x thousand?? people all crying to you why Flash doesn't work on the iPhone... If I were the man in charge I'd say enough of this crap ... we have an iPhone ready (aka SUPER CRAPTASTC!) version of Flash all packed up and ready to explode err... ready to go and Apple cuts us off?!?!? well &*#&$*( them! I'm not fielding any more nasty grams from people ask ME why its not on their stupid little crappy iPhone ... Lets tell em exactly WHY it's not and be done with the entire mess.
Now that was me being an Adobe guy... I actually have a great fondness for my iPhone and a mild hate over the controls Apple has imposed over App store approvals. I'm also a "hey what is this FLASH?! that you speak of?!?!" and why would I ever care to have it on my machine... I've got this flash blocker and cept for certian video sites I get by just fine without seeing crappy flash presentations that are pretending to be Web pages...
Sorry flashers. Flash is not the web no matter how much you beat the drum that it is. It's an abomination not unlike Microsofts Active X. So drop the flash-pipe, spark up a doob and read some Perl Camel books and once you've got a good head on then get some cookies and move over to some Ruby on Rails books or perhaps PHP. Get to know the 'real web'. :D

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(

Just curious.. why would you put the iMac inside the window and block it entirely? Seems a bit odd
The iMac is so big, I just had to. Otherwise it would come to close to my face due to the fact that my desk isn't that deep. So, it's better ergonomically and the window has never been used as an actual window anyway. The desk is located in a small, triangle shaped space in my room. I got 4 different big windows to get my light from:p It also gives me just more deskspace. It's like having it against the wall, I suppose.

halo = quake rip off.
Quake (1996)= Marathon (1994) rip off. The inaccuracy of your statement is that Bungie made both Marathon and Halo (2001). :p
Ok, what I want to know, is the Master Chief around? I never understood the ending of Halo 3. But I figured it out after reading this Halo3 Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_3). If you did not finish the the game on LEGENDARY, they withheld part of the story and misled you!! Bastardos! ;)
My preorder of Halo Reach is enroute.

Reality is that the iMac will get the job done, with plenty of speed, beautiful, and reliable, much better than the $750 PC. For jobs that it can't get done, sorry mate, there is a reason why each processor in the Mac Pro alone costs a lot more than the whole $750 PC.
You do realize that Intel lists the processor (W3530) (http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/INTC/1224760103x0x457323/BFE1FB8B-F199-4C32-B57C-48A17B68AB72/Apr_11_11_1ku_Price.pdf) in the entry level Mac Pro uses for $294? And that the processor is a generation behind and significantly slower than the $750 PC (using an i7-2600 processor which also lists at $294) I mentioned? Right?
I'm as big of an Apple fan as there is. I've owned more than 2 dozen different Macs over the years dating back to the mid 80's. The license plate on my car is "MAC GUY". I paid my way through college programing on them mostly in HyperCard. I own more Apple stock than any other company's stock in my portfolio. But I'm also realistic enough to see that in some areas Apple is not price/performance competitive and probably will never be.
I hate car analogies but yeah a $50K Lexus is better than a $20K GM, but for some people it is not and will never be worth 2-3x the cost. Some people don't need or want to pay the premium for a car that can parallel park itself or rear heated seats! ;-) Lexus has a cap on what their marketshare could be no matter how great their product is which was my original point about Apple.

I hope that the screen is nice and easy on the eyes. The issues that I've had with devices that try to do this plus other features (i.e. like a palm device) is that: 1) the screens aren't big enough (the iPod mockups look like they will be OK) 2) scrolling is funky (fluid wheel scrolling could be accurate, fun and easy to use and 3) staring at a bright screen for hours of reading is tough on the eyes and feels a little weird.
This is a pretty exciting feature though, can't wait!:D

Your statement makes no since. Windows is a hardware dependent OS. If you have the hardware it will run. Buying a 400 dollar Hp is different then running it on a 800 ASUS. You are use to using low grade windows computers. I use Both macs and Highgrade windows based PCs (ASUS & Sony) I see no issues with any of them. Some one game me an HP and it was a piece of ****. I am using an ASUS board right now and I am in LOVE with it.
1. My statement made perfect sense. Apple builds excellent hardware that competes very well with other expensive hardware, the build quality is better than what anyone else produces, and Apple's Macintosh computers often have unique design that you cannot find elsewhere. Anybody who needs to run Windows and is willing to pay for top quality hardware is well advised to consider buying a Macintosh.
2. You are in LOVE with an ASUS board? I'm in love with my wife. If my MacBook was stolen or damaged I wouldn't shed one tear; I would just wait for the insurance money and buy a new one. You seem to have a strange irrational emotional attachment here.

I really don't see any MB or MBP updates. Again, I could be off, but I don't see those until later this year.
I'm sure the C2D chips coming out on all sorts of Windows laptops may be putting some pressure on Apple to update their laptop line, but I think it's still too soon.
It might be too soon for you, but Apple will lose sales if they stick with yonah.
