Hi,
I looked into the ECC vs Non-ECC issue a little more. You can use Non-ECC ram in your MacPro but you can't mix and match ECC and Non-ECC sticks. So, if you were to buy Non-ECC ram you would have to get rid of the ECC ram that's already in your machine. This combined with the fact that error checking ram is preferable to non error checking ram, I would say just spend the extra money and get proper ECC ram. Also, it really isn't that much more expensive.

I was in 8th grade, in Latin Class.
I didn't know what was going on until I got home.
None of the teachers would tell me what was going on.
All I knew is that people kept going home all day. Since I wanted to skip algebra (I hated that class so much!) I wanted to, too, but the teacher would only say "no, you don't want to"
We didn't watch the TV at all, but in english we had a discussion.
Some moron said "let's bomb all those *expletive*-head turban wearing sand *another expletive* KILL THEM ALL!"
I was just confused and shocked at why we would want to bomb whole countries.
I remember getting home, and my mom showed me what was going on. Dan Rather was reporting.
I didn't really know the scope of it freshman or sophomore year.
It was weird.
(but then, this question came up in english my sophomore year, and I got into a big fight with my teacher. whoops!)

All these crazy profits quarter after quarter, and they can't lower the prices...
Unreal greed.
Not greed at all. Likely some of the value of your parent's or grandparent's retirement funds (or maybe your friend's) might well partially depend on Apple stock. If Apple didn't sustain a strong bottom line when they could, those retirement funds could sue Apple for scr*wing your old relatives out of some of their retirement investment as the value of the stock tanks.

MacMaster, thanks for the heads up... fixed it.
iH8Quark - yeah, I'm not a fan of pop-ups myself, and in fact didn't know the ad network I signed on with used them with the banners... but they are infrequent... so we'll have to see how it goes.

ben sent me this image, figured I'd post it here, since I don't think he can from his iphone.
That's why we need a MacRumors app!
I'm a little sad that I won't be lining up this year. I've lined up for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPhone 4. But not the iPad 2 :(

Yep seeing these all over campus now, I'm hoping Apple takes some design cues from the Air and adds them to the MBPs, aka no DVD drive and instead fit a dedicated graphics card in the 13in model and remove the glass screen.

Hi. I'm a freelance designer...I guess I'm still just starting out. The holidays always make me think about trying my hand at designing prints for wrapping paper and gift bags. Most wrapping paper designs seem like something a competent designer could do with relative ease in Adobe illustrator...simple yet fun 2D vector designs of snowmen, snowflakes etc. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried this and if it's possible to successfully shop your designs around to manufacturers? Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Phil

Nice. I was getting so annoyed at the guys in the tukwila thread talking about how cool they are.
I'll be there. 12:00 AM? I'm a black friday veteran but I think you may be overestimating things a tad. I'll be there at three.

I was in 6th grade, about 3 days into the school year. I had just started in a new school, a nice Catholic school. I think we were in either 1st period history or 2nd period science when the first hit. We had library 3rd period I think, which was one of just a few TV's in the school with cable. When we were entering the librarian had the TV on and we could see the burning buildings. But being young, I know I didn't think much of it. After that we ate lunch and I was outside on a field playing some game of ball with some of my new friends. The lunch aides were walking around asking for me because my Mom sent my Dad to pick me up because they didn't know what would happen and I think my Dad was let out of work early (he works in government), while my Mom was still in school. The aide had got the call for me on her walkie talkie. When she was walking me to the office she said something like 'a lot of people are leaving because of what happened', but I didn't know what she was talking about. When my Dad and I met up in the office and were walking back to my class to get my books, he explained to me what happened. He then got to meet my history teacher while I was packing up.
Once we got home we filled up the bathtub with water for drinking or bathing, just in case. We didn't know what was going to happen. I remember crying because my Mom was at work and I wanted us all to be together. We live in NJ so it was all very close. We didn't know if they were in lockdown or what (turns out they didn't go into lockdown). One of the kids at this school I mentioned lost his father, I believe someone at my current school (an alumnus) lost a parent, and a close friend nearly lost both parents, but their train was late, saving their lives.
A story my Latin teach relayed to my Mom...
She had recently had her child and placed him in the daycare on campus. Our high school is on the community college campus. The high school was locked down, but her child was in the day care cross campus. She couldn't get out, so she asked her mother or mother in law to come get the baby. The police or campus police wouldn't let her into the campus. I'm not sure how it was resolved - I think my teacher was let out of the lock down - but it must have been very frightening.
Four years looks like a long time, but it didn't feel that way. To think that in that much time I'll be in my 2nd year of college is a powerful thought.

I have a G3 iMac (2001 Slot Loading, OS 10.3.9) that will not accept the Memorex CD-RX Rewritable disks I bought. Is there something I can do to format these so they work?
Heather, what is "CD-RX?" I've never heard of that format. Is that interchangeable with CD-RW? The latter is the standard read-write format supported by most burners....

Hi All,
I thought that I would post this and let you know how I formatted my new 1TB external for both HFS+ and NTFS. It had been a few years since I had done that so I checked the internet and got an array of contrary and convoluted information. But, this is what worked for me.
Pretty simple and straightforward.
In Mac:
Disk Utility> Partition
-create two partitions. You'll determine their sizes.
Partition 1 format HFS+ I named it MAC External
Partition 2 format MS DOS (FAT) I named it W7 External
-Exit Mac
In Windows 7
Open Disk Management
Locate your external drive.
You will see the Mac partition and you will see an Unallocated partition. Choose the Unallocated partition, (that will become your W7) but you will need to name it and format it NTSF.
-Exit Disk Management
Done.
That was it. Hope it works for you as well.
More room is nice on both sides. I did my image and then backup copy for W7. And now in Mac I decided to use Time Machine for the very first time, since I found this application to schedule Time Machine more eco nomically (hour, or day, or week, or month...instead of it's current hourly updating). I could see why people ran out of hard drive space. The free application I found is called Time Machine Editor. Hope it works, if not I will do a SuperDuper clone and call that good. The link for Time Machine Editor http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/
Also on a side note, the new drive is a Hitachi 7200/1TB and it was so quiet that I had to check the enclosure repeatedly to reafirm that it was running. Very very very quiet drive. This drive replaced the original noisy Seagate that was in my LaCie Quadra2 enclosure. And firewire does really play a key role when using these larger drive.
Hope some of this information is beneficial to our members.

great video bro, awesome performance. im getting the base 27 incher on saturday, cant wait ;)
Did u get a free printer with yours?
Thx man. Is there a special with printer?
Apple salesperson never mentioned it. She did say, "you don't want the better graphics card for extra $100?" I said, "will it help with Photoshop" she said "no mainly for games." I just got the stock model since I don't play games otherwise it'd be online order.
You'll love the 27", IPS screen is amazing. Also speakers are really good, I was very surprised.

This is a really short sighted and black and white viewpoint.
1. Even games that are better with physical controls can be implemented to still be fun on the iphone. Sure, they probably are just going to be ports over from other devices (hey, let's see if we can pick up a few more sales), but they still are fun to play (I've played Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia on my phone. Both are fun and easy to get over the only having a virtual joystick).
2. Shortsighted because this completely ignores the fact there are many games that you really don't need physical buttons or the gameplay is actually better using something else:
Toronto Earth Hour
in Earth Hour last weekend
celebration of Earth Hour
in Earth hour last year.

no one seems to be pointing out that they got rid of educational pricing for iPods... that's a bummer.
I checked the UK Edu Store, and the 30Gb was the same price, however.... the 80GB was 1p more lol. Yeah, that makes sense!

The OS and applications are what cause the vulnerabilities. The architecture has nothing to do with it.

So, I have a Jailbroken iPad and would love to get more than 6 apps on the dock. I have 5 icon dock installed on both my wifes and my iPhones and was hoping there was something similar available for the iPad, 7 or 8 icon dock maybe?
I searched all through Cydia and while I can find a couple of Winterbaord themes that have docks with more icons in them, they also have other UI elements changed that I don't want. I can find anything that just has more icons in the dock.
Anyone seen something I am missing? Maybe another repo?

So questions about the sensors on the 2010 Mac Mini.
Are the 2 sensors on the hard drive the same part.
Being the idiot that I am, I broke the sensor that mounts on the hard drive its self. I have been looking for a part number or part to order and the only thing I can come up with is
Apple Part #: 076-1360
****After 45 minutes with a call center in India they are saying the sensor is part number 076-1369...any thought?
Now this sensor is the one that mounts on the sata conector...any ideas if it will work for the back as well?
My fan is running at a constant speed ot 5500rpm....at least I know it will stay cool.
Oh and by the way, I replaced my stock Toshiba 320gb 5400rpm drive with a Hitachi 7k5...WOW amazing upgrade. I clocked a direct copy of a file that was 2.29gb and the Toshiba was 2min55sec and the Hitachi did it in 1min1sec... 2 minutes FASTER!
I need help ASAP as this is my main machine right now.

Does Push still work?
Is it still unlocked after restore?
What to do if one needs an exchange?
Yes, this wouldn't affect Push at all. It's not like jailbreaking. As for an exchange... I assume if you told them that you had a factory unlocked phone, they would check the IMEI information and unlock the replacement phone for you in the store.

I've got a working one as well, only it's got a hard drive in and boots 7.5.3 - and I'm not selling it. Even if I was the one who technically owned it, I wouldn't sell it.
