If it were up to us, Glee would never have season finales: New episodes would air all 52 weeks of the year — sorta like garbage day, but way more fun. Sadly, Season 2 had to end, and we expected the finale to Blow. Us. Away. After all, they filmed part of it in New York City! But let’s face it — if this year’s finale were a dessert, we got Rice Krispies treats instead of a souffle. No one spends all year looking forward to Rice Krispies treats. (If you do, you really need to branch out.)
Now don’t get us wrong — there was plenty to like: Finchel’s kiss, Samcedes, the return of Sunshine, Klaine’s “I love you’s,” and even Dustin’s hilarious jabs. Despite all that, we were left wanting more. Read on for five ways the finale could have been even better. Maybe next year we’ll at least get cupcakes!

5. Just because something worked last year...
We had an duet by Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) where they grapple with their feelings, a disappointing finish for New Directions, and an upbeat ending. Sound a tad familiar? That’s because the exact same sentence could describe last year’s finale!
At least The Hangover Part 2, which also copies the original’s formula, has the guys find a monkey instead of a baby. Come to think of it, the Gleefinale might have benefited from a mischievous primate — other thanPuck (Mark Salling), that is.
4. Where were the satisfying conclusions to season-long storylines?
We kept waiting for big resolutions that never came. Will (Matthew Morrison) and Emma’s (Jayma Mays) relationship never moved forward;Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) had yet another version of the same conversation; and Schue’s attempt at breakin’ into showbiz ended in the least interesting way possible. How could a plot involving crazy April Rhodes (Kristin Chenoweth) get boring?
3. If you’re gonna bring Jesse (Jonathan Groff) back, at least make him interesting
Sorry, but we’re sooo over Jesse. He might have been a fun diversion last season as a vacuous pretty boy, but at least then — as a member of Vocal Adrenaline — he was integral to the plot. These past few weeks, he’s just been whiny and two-dimensional. A guy can only get by on having amazing hair for so long.
2. Quinn (Dianna Agron) should have done... something (anything!)
At the very end of “Funeral,” after getting dumped by Finn, Quinn promised to unleash hell at Nationals. So what does she do? Absolutely nothing — unless you consider hogging the bathroom for a bit and getting a haircut to be egregious missteps. Why would the writers set that up if they knew the storyline would just be a letdown? Talk about a total tease!
1. It didn’t end with a bang!
We’re not saying we wanted to find out at the end of the episode that this past season was, say, all a dream (à la the ‘80s soap Dallas). We just wish the episode could have felt bigger, perhaps with a cliffhanger to at least give us something to ponder over the summer. Sure, the kiss was exciting, but not really a huge surprise. We kept waiting for a major twist at the end, so the fact that the episode ended quietly was a shock in itself — but not in a good way!
