Finally the truth. I know because I've been using 3G phones since the first day AT&T rolled them out. Call quality was immediately improved as was data transfer speeds. The various phones sold in those years all demonstrated the distinct advantage.

Apple and their biased partners in the blogosphere are the masters of spin.

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Apple enthusiast, but I'm a bigger supporter of the truth.

Hopefully when the day arrives that Jobs moves on, integrity, ethics and truth will be allowed back into the organization.
What is the truth exactly? I understand what you mean that 3G was more along then some think but I get the impression (and I could be wrong) that you are saying that it is Apples fault for AT&Ts network issues?

Now here is one place where the superiority of the Zune comes through. Many, many words rhyme with "Zune", in contrast to the sadly rhyme-challenged "iPod". You can even have:

    "I played a mellow tune
    On my yellow Zune."

With iPod, you pretty much run out after "tripod".
    ---
    Ha!
    Ive an even better one:

"Id really go to town if I had a Zune t'was brown"
And we all know what brown reminds us of besides chocolate....

I can totally understand his frustration. His job is to make his application better. When there is a big bug that sneaks into the application but isn't caught before the release of the app. You discover it after several people complain (and several in FB terms is probably thousands) but you can fix the problem in an hour. But then you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the application to be approved by apple. In the mean time you can't do jack **** because the app store is completely controlled by Apple. Oh and the user has to deal with the bug until Apple approves the update which at the current rate can be anywhere from a week to three weeks (or more as noted below).

His job is made harder because of Apple's BS. Why would you want your job to be harder than it needs to be? Of course you don't want your job to be harder. So why say that his job should be any different than your own.

Nevermind the other developers out there like Cerulean Studio's who haven't heard a single peep from Apple about their Trillian app for the iPhone for over 3 months. THREE MONTHS.

It's pretty clear that while one developer has the capability to be reassigned to better things, not all developers are. As a result he chose to make his life easier. Others can't, but my guess is that if they had the choice they too would switch away from the App Store.

Look at Steven Frank (from Panic) who tried to ditch the iPhone for philosophical reasons as well. He wasn't able to leave. But my guess is his success rate would be higher now with the newer Android devices (Droid and Droid Eris/Hero).

This isn't just one developer having problems. It's a LOT of big developers who are seeing issues. meanwhile more fart apps, flashlight apps and trash are loaded up on the store for no good reason. But those who actually want to make your life easier are getting nothing but grief (or in the case of Cerulean Studios' NOTHING).

Look at the bigger picture is what I'm saying.

I seem to remember though, the initial wait was 2 weeks, but when the app had errors, and resubmitted, Apple jumped on the fixes, and knocked them out pretty quickly, within a day of each submission. I may be wrong here, but I don't think I am.

My battery serial number was in the 3K437 range, but the website accepted my computers serial number, but not the battery...

So i changed the last letter of my battery serial number from an A to a C (B diden't work)

    And it went thru.....

    :D sweet

So does this mean that your battery is not part of the exchange program? Or is it part of the exchange program because you changed your serial number?

Friends, I am not too sure right now, but I think I have just discovered a smart person or a dishonest person?

This was a good WWDC. :D Quad Xeons... what I was hoping for since 2004!

When Phil announced the MacPro and the Xeon chip he stressed on an amazing performance per watt ratio. That sounded a lot like Steve introducing the MacBook Pro and iMac with the first Intel chips. At the time the performance per watt ratio was an important criteria for battery life on notebooks, which is apparently why the PowerBook never got a G5.

With the Xeons high perf/watt, should we be expecting them to be fitted in later MacBook and MacBook Pros?

Apple won't sell a suite (there are no suites in the App Store). Look at iWork - just individual apps for purchase. They'll probably charge $299 for FCP and $99/each for the other apps, or have it all rolled up into Final Cut Pro.

I just wonder if there is any upgrade pricing strategy. No matter what - $299 is A STEAL!

    And isn't the 128mb 7300 still much better than the 256mb 1600?

Yes, it is still better. Although the 7600, for $125, will make things even better than that.

I think the prices of Windows and OSX are quite the same. You can buy a new version of OSX more frequently for a lower price per each version, or buy a new version of Windows once and pay more for it but receive free updates/service packs for years. The yearly costs are quite the same.

Best use of selective color I've seen. Love it.

Thanks, when I was taking it I was unsure if it would come out the way I wanted. Even if it didn't come out there was something still fun about rubber ducks in a water fountain.

*snip* Time Machine sounds like the utility in windose xp called systen restore and Spaces sounds like Expos.

Time Machine seems more like the Shadow Copies on Server only on a local level rather than a network drive. (example attached)

I'm assuming they will use a form of Single Instance Storage with TM, so you have one copy of the file and only the deltas from any changes to reduce space requirements.

My prediction: Apple will eventually come out with a 10.6" widescreen "MacBook mini". I think it'll more like 3 lbs, not 2 lbs, though, since that Sony laptop does not have an optical drive. I hope Apple doesn't do away with the optical drive (and I don't think they will), since I think that being a portable DVD player is really a core function of laptops at this point, at least a multimedia and consumer centered laptop (which a MacBook mini would be).

I've seen the Fujitsu 10.6" LifeBook laptops with built-in optical drive and they are sweeeeeeeeeeeet!:

    http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?sku=6170351&srccode=cii_5784816&cpncode=10-28291577-2

One thing about the Fujitsu computers though - they are *expensive* (about $2000). Since Apple is one of the best companies in the world at making very compact products, maybe they can release a game-changing computer in this category. I mean, what if Apple were to basically release the MacBook, just with a smaller screen - and for about the same price as the MacBook!! Apple would have a monster hit on its hands, IMHO. It would be extremely popular with a lot of customers, but especially with students that are already carrying already heavy books, etc. in their bookbags, and would love a lighter, more compact computer...

I just don't see that happening, even if they have an optical drive in it. Apple is content with the portable line as it is, and the MacBook is pretty compact already. Plus, I don't see Apple using a smaller widescreen than 13.3".

you can judge me all you want ... my family is both Canadian and American.

I live on both sides of the border.

sorry if I do not support everyone's Anti-American Military views.

Cutting the Military is not for me ... Even though I would have to pay higher taxes, I'd rather scrap all these Government Casinos and Government Bookies we have up in Canada than reduce even one dollar in Military spending.
Yet time and time again you've given absolutely no reasoning as to why Canada needs a bigger military or why the USA shouldn't cut pack.

    Essentially its been, "because".

Now that is fine and you are entitled to just think something "because", but you have to recognize that means it has no credibility or even rationale behind it.

I'd love for you to at least give your own reasoning so we can understand your viewpoint.

i would fall of my chair laughing if apple did some notification that you shouldn't shut down your macbook during the firmware update... hhehehe :D

they did. check the article. pretty ironic.

but i just installed it on my blackbook without a hitch. mid-summer mine was shutting down, then after the 1.0 firmware update it worked fine, and it just started again this week. i've been using it for 30 mins since the 1.1 update with no shutdowns.

i wonder if it just ignores that temp sensor shorting out? there's bound to be other temp sensors in the case, they could just completely ignore that one.

No, I think this is an ideal time and place to deal with this issue. If we are discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the christian bible, this is one of the biggest.

I hear what you are saying, but again I would disagree. Though I'm not sure you intend to do so, the argument you have presented comes across as if all believers in the Bible ascribe to a theology of works. Though some denominations might function in this manner, it is not consistent with the primary message of the Bible which is that we are saved by grace through faith based on the sacrifice of Christ.

The concept of moral neutrality or clean slate at birth, is a long debated issue and you are correct in saying that the Bible teaches the doctrine of original sin. Based on scripture I personally believe that while man is definitely capable of "good" due to the fact that he has been created in the image of God, that image has been marred by sin. This leaves man in a "broken" condition and at the core we are selfish by nature.

Please hear what I'm saying, because as you correctly point out this can be a very confusing process, especially in a post modern world that espouses situational ethics and moral relativity. I believe in absolute truth, truth that exists outside of my perspective and is applicable regardless of how I "feel" about it.

An accurate understanding of original sin does not mean that man is completely "evil" in the sense that we are incapable of doing works that would be considered "good" or altruistic. The human spirit is capable of many good things, but without an accurate understanding of who God is and our relationship to him these good works become nothing but acts of vanity and self glorification that serve only to advance pride and promote self-reliance.

Like many of the things we have discussed in this thread I fully understand that this will hinge upon that impasse of faith that many can't get over.

The important part of all this is we'll be able to do the .x updates without connecting our devices to iTunes, even if it means using WiFi.

I'm guessing iOS 5 will offer patches, instead of the full OS, letting users sync on their carrier's network. It's true this update method is more dangerous, but I have a feeling Apple is working on a safe way to do this.
