Better they use the same gestures etc. as Apple if they are going to push forward with multi-touch. We don't want to end up in 10 years time with a situation where every device has a different method for doing the same thing!
So true.
It drives me up the wall in CAD programs when they all choose their own way for common actions like view manipulations. For the sake of everyone who has to learn the programs... use the same conventions!
Same for things with canvases, and control or alt or scrolling drags for left/right/up/down movement.

Giving my '08 Mac Pro a new lease of life with a SSD. 3'5 (so I won't have to worry about sleds etc.) I'm going for a clean install, but is there any special considerations regarding formatting I should be aware of?
This is the drive;
OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot 120GB 3.5" SATA-II
Should I install in windows first to update firmware?
EDII read this post which has got me thinking it going to be difficult

I'm starting to think maybe my memory is faulty and I used the sled screws. Perhaps I should check tonight.

I bought a new charger for this machine around a week ago and for some reason, the battery will not charge. I bought an aftermarket charger, entirely on the basis of costs due to my apple one dying after a good few years. The light on the button to open the lid of the laptop was shining for about 3 days, but has now turned off completely.
Whenever I try to charge the laptop with the new charger, the laptop makes a slight buzzing noise (It's quite hard to explain what it actually sounds like). Today when I inserted the charger, the laptop did emit the turn-on bong but then switched off about 3 seconds after wards.
If anyone has had a similar problem or knows of a cure, please reply below.
Thank You, Matt. :)
is it a genuine charger? I saw somewhere someone else did buy a non-genuine charger and voltage was not the same thus making lot of problems, check the DC-inboard.

This new look is way better. But I really hate that big ad between the first and second article. With my 1280x960 resolution, I can only see the first article!

Just bring up your 'stroke' commands box and alter the parameters such as dash and gap sizes (you'll find this drastically alters the flow of the line when you change the actual stroke line width).
Its a case of tailoring the 'fit' of the dashes until you are happy.
You can also try different 'corners' within the same commands box.

Man, I feel like I have the worst luck in the world. I followed this story (on another thread) when it initially started, in response to the Time Warner iPad app. When I saw that the optimum one became available I instantly knew I would be setting myself up with this. However, I slacked and waiting to download the app. Now I'm left with no option but to use it on a jailbroken iPad, (which is fine because I have a JB'd iPad1). But this means I won't be able to use it on my iPad 2, until it is jailbroken. Sigh...

The point is, Apple needs to show labels that the ITMS is selling music in order to persuade the labels to sign and renew agreements. So if DVD Jon's SW, and other similar SW, weakens or cripples sales from ITMS then there is a problem.
I don't thing this will happen, however. As others have said, Apple's ease-of-use is one of their larger advantages. The richness of the ITMS, Apple's deep marketing pockets, etc, all play into the continued dominance of the ITMS.
Additionally, it will continue to be very difficult for any other company to kill Apple on price per track, as the labels are already pressuring Apple to bump the prices up. Newcomers will of course feel that same pressure.
I can only see this as a good thing for Apple. They don't make much, if any, money off of iTMS sales. They run the store at cost or near that to fuel the sale of iPods.

I think that's a much more likely possibility. It's smart to patent anything you invent, even if you have no intention of using it for anything.
I agree with you 100% remember ipod mini in the laptop thing, also side lighting on the macs etc..... there are hundreds and hundreds of unused apple patents

I have an Edison and a Richard Feynman that I know are 100% originals and they do not have a copyright line on them. Neither does my Picasso, my Joan Baez, my Ghandi, or my Hitchcock. Only the ones I have gotten from Germany on eBay have the copyright line on them....the Buzz Aldrins, and a set of 6 of the 22x28" posters all have the copyright line on them.

Hey all, I currently live in Japan, and would like to get some experiences working at Apple. I haven't decided which floor I would like to work at, but it will most likely be the Genius Bar.
Now, to get in to my main point, is it possible to work at the Apple Store under the age of 18? I have no idea about the labor laws, work permit, and things like that, but I just to make sure. I saw on other thread that in state of Nevada, a person should be above the age of 16 to get a job.
BTW, I'm 17 currently.
Directly from the Labor Standards Laws:
(Minimum Age)
Article 56. An employer shall not employ children
until the first 31st of March following their having fully
reached the age of 15 years.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding
paragraph, outside of school hours, children above 13 full
years of age maybe employed in occupations in enterprises
other than those listed in items 1 through 5 of Annexed
Table No. 1, and which involve light labor that is not
harmful to the health and welfare of the children, with the
permission of the administrative office. The same shall
apply to children under 13 full years of age employed in
motion picture production and theatrical performance
enterprises.

I believe as well that it is a hard drive issue. When the screen shows a blinking folder with a question mark, it means the system cannot find a bootable OS. I would recommend that you restart the computer with the install disk and run Disk Utility.
Hope that helps.

But what do the Chinese characters mean?
They're shorthand for the website where they downloaded the colour bars for the LCD screen test.

Coleman,
I appreciate the time and effort you put in to get this document together. Now I need to figure out a workable solution in windows.

No problem. I have windows 7 installed on my MacBook Pro. In the weekend I'll boot to windows and figure out a window solution.

Sorry but I don't really understand your reply. I think I get what your getting at.
I will give an example. Joe Smith.
Just say his email is jsmith@blah.com
first time i receive an email from him, i right click his email address at the top of the email and go down to add to address book.
Then I test it by opening a new email, clicking in the TO: section and typing 'Joe'.. It wont find it but if i type 'js' it will find it.
Next I have tried deleting that contact from the address book and opening address book myself. Adding the contact physically through the address book program. Test it, same thing. Only way I can search a name in an email is to open a new email click the address book icon within that email pane and find the user. Which is just another extra step I should have to do. :(

My Razr I use now is decent, but even it has horrible engineering flaws - like putting small buttons down the side that always get pressed accidently when the phone is on a belt-clip.
Well, I suppose that's what you get for using a belt clip.

Apparently, for accounting reasons, they have to sell the update for $2 because they are adding functionality to products that have already shipped. (From the MacRumors front page)
It would probably be a good idea to follow the official thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=271382) now:
