Justin Bieber's Sydney, Australia Show Canceled; 'Bieber Fever' Officially A Worldwide Epidemic

Justin Bieber fans experienced a roller coaster of emotions Monday. The 16-year-old pop star was scheduled to perform outdoors in Sydney, Australia, but after nearly 5,000 fans camped out overnight for the show, police canceled the event for safety reasons.

According to MTV, thousands of Bieber-obsessed fans were on site at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay by 3 a.m., and upon hearing that the Canadian singer had arrived, the crowd rushed the stage, causing people to get hurt. More than 100 distressed teens were pulled from the crowd, 10 more concertgoers reportedly fainted and two people were taken to hospital for more serious injuries. Authorities decided to cancel the show as a precaution.

"I love my fans...and I am just as disappointed as everyone else with the news from this morning," Justin tweeted. "I want to sing for my fans."

Justin sent another tweet shortly after, explaining that the decision to cancel the concert was not his own, however, fans weren't entirely let down. Justin ended up performing 'Baby' from inside Seven networks studios before asking attendees to go home.

"Today was nuts already and it's only 10am in the morning," Justin wrote on his Facebook page. "The police canceled the show in Sydney this morning due to safety concerns, and my fans' safety always comes first. But I wanted to perform, so after a lot of crazy stuff I finally got to see my fans here in Australia. I could never have imagined a welcome like this. Thank u so much. I love AUSTRALIA!!"

It's clear that Bieber fever has spread worldwide. Recent visits to London, Paris and Tokyo have resulted in mass hysteria over the pop star, which have caused local authorities to step in on more than one occasion. Last year, Justin's Long Island, N.Y. appearance was shut down by police, eventually leading to the arrest of the singer's manager. Justin's Paris CD-signing event was canceled for crowd control reasons, and when he tweeted his whereabouts on a recent trip to London, hundreds of fans swarmed the location.

Following the events in Sydney, Justin will be embarking on his first-ever North Americanheadlining tour. New security measures may need to be taken for his 40-plus show run, or else fans risk the chance of more canceled appearances. But as Justin says, his "fans' safety comes first."
