    Hi,

What is the best way to archive only a *portion* of my iPhoto library? My library is over 30 GB and I really only need to access the last 12 months or so.

It is too large to use DVD/CD and I have an external HDD.

I've read about creating a smartfolder with a date definition, selecting that folder and then doing "file-->export". This seems to export each individual file. I assume I can import these at a later time if needed? Will all of the metatag (date, time, location, etc.) be preserved.

    Thanks for any help.

While on the subject of non-VPC x86 emulators...

    http://www.lismoresystems.com/

This company has had an x86 emulator for a while now (for pre-OS X systems) called Blue Label Power Emulator. Their new Guest PC app is supposed to be a newer version built for OS X.

I tried BLPE on OS 9 a long time ago, so I don't remember much about it. I'm not sure if I even got it to work.

    dear forum,

the problem with this g5 is the "darn" fans. they are revving up and spinning at crazy speeds constantly.

is there anything to fix this? we've sprayed it with air to clean, remounted the ram and the video card, cleaned the connections for the fans, remounted the 2 fans (especially the main offending fan) and looked for software fixes.

also we reset the pmu and smu.

    heeeellllp :-)

Sometime in August of last year, I dropped my laptop (2 GHz 2006 Macbook Core 2 Duo) off of a bed (about 2 feet.) When I tried to boot it after the fall, the screen would flash, the cd drive would churn once, and the fans would run. No chime, no screen activity. So I put it back in the box and buried it in the closet, assuming the motherboard or something bent. I just recently pulled it out to see if there were any new developments. Same thing. But when I tried to reset the PRAM, the screen gave me the grey screen and a chime! But after that things went back to the way they were. Can specific parts of the motherboard break (the RAM slots, etc.) or would nothing work if there were damage? Would a fall cause the RAM to unseat? Could this mean that this laptop is redeemable or what?

    Tellement cool "6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1... WOOOOOOOH!!!!!" Let the big cat out of the bag !

I had a problem like this before. A lot of it actually installs and you can move it simply, remove Kazaa and look through Add/Remove programs and see if you see any junk in there.

Sometimes there in there. If that doesn't work... *gets XP disks*

I'm talking about the animals getting large dose exposures, like around the Japanese reactors. Birds get exposed then fly away and settle in populated areas. It was my understanding the this much radiation takes hundreds of years to dissipate. So if we assume the birds in my example don't get eaten by other animals (or be eaten by humans), if any exposed animals died they would still be radioactive and a health hazard to people coming across their bodies.

And what of the radiation the Japanese plants are pouring into the ocean, which can expose ocean life, that people might eat later in other countries?

I usually try to avoid dead, wild animals as a matter of course.

The radiation in the water is of concern to fish and seaweed nearby. They're already assuming seafood consumption will go down in Japan and imported meats will go up.

@Sydde, I didn't think about them carrying and distributing contaminated materials. Something to consider. It's a messy situation.

So I've just completed the installation of Windows 7 on a Core i7 2.0 15" MBP. Everything works quite fine save for a little booting hitch which was promptly solved via the recovery console.

    But something troubles me.

Although everything works quite fine, where is the ATI Control Panel? My last MBP had a GeForce 8400M, and the Windows side had the nVidia Control Panel.

Does this new release not include an ATI Control Panel?

...does this Folding project help at all with diabetes?

not listed as a current study by stanford, but all folding research will help advance all knowledge of related disease. diabetes has been linked to mis-folded proteins, and work is ongoing by other universities. LINK (http://www.curingdeath.com/Research/Problems_with_insulin_folding_may_lead_to_diabetes.asp) to one of the more current results.

    thanks for folding.

Hello Broward! Anyone out there think there will be a line at the mac store at Galleria for the 3GS launch? Do you think they'll run out of 3GS on the 19th as well throughout the day?

Anyone remember how it was on the 3G phone last year? This could be a good indicator.

    Thanks!
    Alex

If you want to own a market, you have to open your platform to other players, just like Google and Microsoft license their software to whoever wants to make hardware and software for them. Divide et impera - divide and rule. Apple never understood this simple concept.
It is a simple concept but your logic is flawed. You are operating under a false assumption. Apple have never sought to "own a market". There always have been, and always will be, products that are cheaper or that do not reflect the correct "design aesthetic" that Apple do not even try to compete with.

If I drag the picture from the actual Photo Booth application after I take it onto my desktop does it still put a copy of that photo in the Photo Booth folder?
Dragging it from Photo Booth only makes a copy wherever you drop it, which gives you the ability to drag it to a folder or your Desktop, then drag it again to your Mail icon to email it. To remove the pic from the Photo Booth folder, simply click once on the pic in the Photo Booth app and press the "delete" key. That removes it from the Photo Booth folder.

That's really up to you, what you think is good.

It doesn't support charging because it charges from the firewire pin, and all of apple's products now charge off the usb. You can get a adapter to make it work if you wanted to keep that dock.

Just got the B&W P5 Headphones last week. Comfortable on ear and they sound great. They isolate sound very well (tested in a noisy apple store).

Hello everyone. I recently deleted a ton of fonts I had on my computer, because I had so many it was just annoying me to wait 8 minutes every time I needed to use the text tool. So I deleted just tons of fonts. Now when I try to use the text tool it's saying this:
Could not complete your request because of a program error.

Also in the pull down menu when I select a font it doesn't put a font in the box right? It just leaves it blank.

Anyone have any idea's, do I need more info? Please help.

That's kind of what's happening, no? In this case, the driver is picking up the details through Software Update hitting the Apple config website.
Not quite. I was proposing something more automatic, without users having to respond to prompts and wait for installers to run.

I know that some people want precise control over what gets installed, but these kinds of trivial updates seem like bother we could do without. Imagine if you launched iTunes, clicked iTunes Store, and it said "The list of top weekly hits is out of date. Click here to install an iTunes update". That would be awful! Instead, we expect it to fetch the latest data automatically, so I wondered if O.S. updates for camera data and printer drivers could be handled that way too.
