one thing in lion that will not get used for me is the launchpad. damn on my 27" ACD it's so big. i remember all of my installed apps and prefer to use spotlight for easy way to launch them.
I totally agree. Launchpad should run in a window. Spotlight is still the way to go for power users. Of course, normal people will like the launchpad.

I am a Apple Fan boy through n through. Well i like to call myself the MAC daddy haha!
I have just come across the mac mini server. I want it!!! But not sure it can replace my current set up.
In my garage, i have a Dell 390 workstation with 4 TB of space. I manily use this to keep all my movies, music, and media on. I stream my movies from it via shared drives to my WD TV Live box. Which i love... I use programs like, Vuse / Handbrake actually they are the most common apps i use. Eventually id like to be able to back up my external drives from my imac to the server.
Just wondering if the mac mini server could replace that. As the Dell is power hungry, large and just plain ugly. But it does have 4TB worth of space.
Could the mac mini replace this setup, and if so how?
Are you talking about the mac mini or the mac mini server?
if it's the dual HD server, then you won't get a built in DVD drive.
Personally if you want to keep power down, i'd invest in something like a qnap TS410 NAS. It'll take 4 drives, up to 8TB and will allow you to protect the data by using RAID 1,5 or 6. You can plug your existing external drives into it. It has built in mac/win/ftp sharing, upnp, itunes sharing, iphone access and will draw less than 40 watts at peak usage. Then use your dell for ripping dvd's. I'm assuming it's a hackintosh if you are running handbrake?
amazon linkie (http://www.amazon.co.uk/QNAP-TS-410-Server-iPhone-Streaming/dp/B002PML096/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1298551987&sr=1-1)
:D
EDIT: just noticed your question to the other poster. This is indeed headless and can do bitorrent in the background.

Last week, my airport express went from awesome (~80% signal strength to my iMac, great speed) to sucktacular (~5% signal strength, terrible speed, when it worked at all). An investigation revealed that a visitor had unplugged the airport, and had stuck it in a power bar between two brick power adaptors (one for the cable modem, and the other for the charging station for some wireless headphones). Obviously, the interference and shielding from those two angry spools of copper were causing the problem - a quick relocate to the original outlet restored my signal to its earlier levels. Dunno if you have the same problem, but if you do, its a quick fix :)

Now that I have a great new white iPhone 4, I'm taking a wait and see approach.
It has nothing to do with the color, but rather how great this new model is.
Normally I trust Apple and pre order the moment they release each new iPhone. But after getting burned with Antennagate, I'm not taking the risk.
Another shocker is how many improvements the new white iP4 has. It's far and away the best of all smartphones.
The performance as a phone is wonderful. Loud and clear, it doesn't drop calls. So now that I have a great iPhone there's no reason to get iPhone 5.
I'm going to enjoy this one till iPhone 6.

Let me guess- this was proposed by a Tea Party member.
Tea party fascists should be put up against a wall and shot! They would do this in my country.

You'll need a hack (http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/mac_support/mac_help/pages/15-burn_idvd_other.html) to get iDVD to "see" external burners.
I am very, very happy with my LaCie d2 16X dual-layer external burner, which comes with Toast 6 Titanium, all for $199 at the Apple Store. Same front size as all d2 drives, about 50% deeper than the "normal" d2 drives (fits nicely on the LaCie desktop rack with my 120GB and 250GB LaCie d2 externals).

Yeah, I had a typo, but Hellhammer had what it "should be" for a good 16:10 Golden Ratio. :)
It really is! The whole world is built on Phi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmaVqkR0ZXg) ;)
You know I just pointed out that common mistake, typo. I didnt laugh or anything.
But now I shat brix...
It's completely fine to correct people, even if it was just a typo or other innocent mistake. I don't mind if someone corrects me, as long as he is right :) You also added something to the discussion so it wasn't a "useless" comment either.

No SATA III also means potentially no beach balls - so either should work fine. If I remember correctly, Micron makes the NAND chips that powers a lot of the SSD drives. Micron C400 = Crucial m4. So both are good choices.

Well duh, house of straw and sticks blew away, brick stands strong.
Why people in Homestead, Florida had built their houses out of either ALL WOOD or only first floor cement walls is beyond me.
Living in florida, near the coast, your house SHOULD NOT be made of "weak" building materials. Thats just common sense.

Sometimes I've very pleased with their products. Sometimes I'm mightily annoyed. I spent months trying to get an Acrobat problem resolved and their customer service was the worst I have ever encountered. I finally bought Photoshop CS this year and I'm very pleased with it. So our love/hate relationship continues.

Whats the point of banning if they can just make a new user?
It lets them know that their posting habits were not acceptable and that they are no longer welcome. Some of these users leave for good because it's clear that this site doesn't suit them. Some contact us to blame us for their behavior while others contact us to debate the details of their situation.
And yes, some of them re-register. They are often identified to the moderators by users who recognize them, or are spotted by the moderators themselves. The people who get banned, i.e., users who break rules and are uncooperative in the first place, tend not to change personality and as a result often end up getting banned again for the same reason they did the first time. Very few want to play cat-and-mouse this way for long since they aren't able to use the forums as other users do. No doubt there are some re-registrants who haven't been caught, but there's not much we can do about that. There will always be immature users and we'll always need to rely on forum users to report their inappropriate posts, but the job of the moderators is to minimize the problems they cause for other users.

I have three letters for you.... DRM.
The Netflix app is very well protected.
They do this to prevent stream recording/capture.
I have a fairly old flat LCD TV. Is that is what is causing the problem? If I use a new TV would that solve the issue?

You should be able to buy heatsink gel at any serious computer store (not best buy, et al). Please be forewarned, I've never personally done that, but I know that stuff is out there.
