Obama is quite within his rights according to the War Powers Resolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Powers_Resolution) ...
The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto.
That is if America is under immediate threat, hence Bush's big case about WMDs before invading Iraq. America was under no threat from Libya. The President cannot simply go to war because he feels like it. That is definitely not a power he has by the Constitution but it is a power he'll take nonetheless. The Executive branch has taken more and more power away from the legislature and, most of all, the people and I don't think it'll stop until things get much worse.
I really hope he isn't under the Keynesian impression that war is good for one's economy. This is the mark of an empire in decline.

love how everyone hates radioshack. i personally work for them and we are way more helpful than any other company is . nothing is wrong with radioshack. it maybe a smaller retail store but that means u get better and more personal customer service. good luck trying to find help at best buy or walmart in a huge department. all they are gonna tell you is " i dont work in this department sorry"

The other company's comparable machines to the MacBook Pro have C2D processors. The ones that compete against the MacBook don't for the most part. Apple didn't drop the ball.
Correct! The MB is an excellent value as-is. Of course we all want "more" for our money, and I expect Apple to drop the C2D into MBs soon - if not now, by MWSF at the latest. And if they offer a graphics chip as a BTO option, that's just icing on the cake - at their current price-point, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep integrated graphics, though (in part to push sales of MBPs for those needing a graphics chip.)

Colors are fugly, as are the square ipod mini corners.
You would think the designer would take a trip to Tokyo once in awhile.
How about mocha chocolate, orange, or white.
Ipods used to be small status items. These look like sh**
I will take the new shuffle, at least it is small & I can hide it.

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(
lol! sucks... or maybe you have an awesome machine one the way anyway. i bought my macbook pro right before they did the 2.53 refurbs to make way for the sd cardslot mbp's. those could handle 8 gig of mem and mine is a 2.4 with 4gb max. all they sold those for just 1500 bucks and i bought mine for 1800. i was a month and 6 days out of the price guarantee threshhold. i wanted to die...... but then i realized my mac is a monster in it's own right and im enjoying the heck out of it and will continue to do so for the next 7 or 8 years. ..... still sucks tho.

Can anyone verify which serials are the right ones? The press release and the Apple site differed (before it died). I'm in the press release range, not the Apple range. :confused:

Probably OK for everyday use, but impractical for computers used for image editing because of the smudges.

I'm sorry, I would buy a iPad 3D, just so I could play Angry Birds in 3D. This coming from someone who vowed never to play nice with the Apple iEcosystem. But if Apple can do it, and HP/Palm and MS are nowhere in sight with their 3D tablets, well... iPad it is I guess.

Personally I see this as a big deal for a reason not many others have mentioned: bringing in the holdouts.
The Beatles are the big one of course, but the others (Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, etc.) are still unsure about the whole digital music thing. If the biggest hold-out finally folds and goes for sale on-line, others will follow.
(and yes, I'm not exactly sure if the Rolling Stones or Led Zepplin are "holdouts", but they're not on iTunes or anywhere else that I can see... surely there are others?)

Hopefully when the day arrives that Jobs moves on, integrity, ethics and truth will be allowed back into the organization.
Integrity, ethics and truth will never happen in a competitive social system that is based on money and profit unless the company wants to go bankrupt. That's what PR is for: telling lies in the most acceptable way to the public. Still lies.

doing battle with walmart, trying to get more studios and cable/tv channels on board, holding back the RIAA with a chair and a whip...apple is doing a lot to revolutionize digital media distribution, and i'm appreciative of this. but at what point will this take it's toll on macintosh computers? will apples legal and business battles compromise technological development?

If they increase the amount of RAM to 1GB they could increase the amount the integrated graphics use to around 128mb, the current 64mb is a bit low.

Earlier this week I saw a rumor about Apple and Garmin joining forces at this years MacWorld. I hope it's true as I bought some Garmin stock earlier this week and already hold 899 shares of Apple. Garmin desperately needs a new revenue source, especially in the new economic recession/stagflation, and Apple could use the best GPS consumer electronics maker in the industry to position themselves further ahead of the competition. Also, if it's an exclusive agreement, this could put them much further along than even Nokia who licenses the mapping software to Garmin for all their GPS.
Maybe a way for Apple to corner the market while telling their competitors to grab their ankles..
Roocka
Hey everyone, I'd just thought you'd like to know that I'm loaded too. I have 901 shares of Apple....and I would have lost close to $18000 last week when the stock dropped, but fortunately it's only 5% of my portfolio. That and some prescient shorting mitigated my downside risk. So yeah, how about that new MacPro?

Well we have to agree it was a long run with many songs. After all 10 yeas is a long period for every gadget these days. Just look at how phones are appearing and disappearing on the market.

Wow, we went a whole hour without this old one popping up again. I feel embarrassed for you.
I don't know, to me Final Cut Suite was always a steal. The 'revolution' started over 10 years ago. Unfortunately, broadcasters still require HDCAM/SR deliveries so rentals aren't necessarily a thing of the past yet. I can't wait for the day we can just deliver a quicktime file.
Its nearer than you think, at least here. We were allowed to deliver 7*30min episodes as ProRes files on a hard drive to the main broadcaster here (NRK1 HD, the BBC equivalent) in Norway in January.
First they wanted HDCAM, but we argued that we would just lose a couple of generations this way. We had used quite a bit of Gopro and CAnon 5D footage and we didnt want that to go through too many unnecessary convertions.

Haven't taken a photo in ages, decided to shake off the rust by trying my hand at some more HDR shots. Processed this one in Photoshop, because for some reason Photomatix Pro and I haven't been getting along well lately.

If they had any talent to begin with, they'd be making enough money with the tool where the cost of it would be meaningless anyway. ;)
Your logic is flawed, kid. You need the right tools, BEFORE you can make money with them.

So here we have a bunch of guys complaining that Adobe likes to take your money and that its overpriced and what not...pretty weird since i don't see you guys making complaints when Apple is making you pay twice sometimes 3 times the price of what hardware is actually worth...especially in the Mac Pro department....nobody complains when Apple is giving you crap outdated 2009 video cards in 2010 -2011 computers while expecting you to pay as much in 2011 as you would in 2009.
Just saying that Apple probably has the biggest hypocritical user base of all user bases...always criticizing something but never Apple because Apple is the best wright...this could be the case in the past but these days the only thing Apple is great at is releasing poorly build and full of error machines.
on the Adobe thing, just go ahead and download it already and download a nice album for whilst your working, maybe a movie to relax in the evening if the price is to high, have fun getting stuff for free lives expensive enough as it is...everybody here probably did some pirating but hey lets all act as if we are 100% legit LOL, its not as if Adobe's CEO is going to starve from hunger...besides that i'm totally pro piracy :eek: yup...why should the arrogant west be the only ones whom have access to good software...how about the talented guys/kids...in poor country's whom hardly have enough money to buy food...why shouldn't they be allowed to use the software, watch new movies, listen to nice tunes...prices should be fair, as long as prices ain't fair there can't be fairplay in the game

Great news. The more manufacturing capacity, the better.
As discussed in other similar threads, this represents EXCELLENT news for both Apple and Brazil for the following reasons:
- This is gonna provide Apple with a MUCH stabler production site in terms of governance, workforce and overall environment, along with way lower shipping costs (after all, Brazil is the second-biggest Western democracy in the world, not an Asian sweatshop);
- Lower prices will finally allow Apple to tap into that gigantic market, with a majority of middle-class consumers as well as one of the most demanding upscale societies;
- Brazil is gonna benefit from positive spillovers in terms of a skilled workforce cluster and much lower costs for Apple devices in the country - Brazil is, today, the place where you'll find the MOST expensive Macs, iPods and iPhones in the world due to high import taxes;
But it's important to clarify what some people (especially US citizens) tend to think about Brazil:
- Brazil does NOT have cheap labor as in Asia - in fact, the country is already the world's 7th economy and among the MOST EXPENSIVE in the globe in terms of overall labor AND living costs (due to extensive social security obligations and a booming economy), especially in the rich area of So Paulo. This is definitely NOT a reason for Apple to have a plant there.
- And no, we DO NOT speak Spanish nor are we "Latinos" (defined by the brother from the North as those Latin Americans of hispanic background); in terms of gene pools, Brazil is, in fact, overwhelmingly European (between 65 and 80%, depending on the region).
And finally, PLEASE correct the family name of the Brazilian Minister of Technology: it is "Mercadante", not "Mercadente".

They force you to make backups instead of being able to go on your account and download everything you bought if you need to again. (That is increased cost on my side, because I have to buy more hardware to do it and need to not only store it but store it again as backup.)
I sympathise with lots of your points, but this one doesn't necessarily stand up.
Cost of an external hard disk to back up my entire music library (if I had bought it all from iTunes): Approx 40
Cost of shelving to hold all my CD's: Approx 200
