    It's not that Apple isn't capable of coming up with a version of iOS that would run well on the 3G hardware. Of course they could if they wanted to. What it comes down to is Apple having to draw a line in the sand and phase out support at some point. They can't keep spending money to develop for it forever. The 3G is nearly 3 years old. I think it has served it's purpose well, and now it's time to let it retire in peace. It's worked a long time and is tired.

    Personally I am surprised anyone is holding on to older phones like that. There are such good deals to be found in selling old hardware that will allow you to upgrade every year if you want with little or no expense to do so. When the 3Gs came out, I sold my original iPhone online for $160, so the upgrade only cost me $40 plus tax. It was well worth it. And when iPhone 5 drops this summer, I will do the same thing. Not too shabby if you ask me.

    I totally agree. However, the 4.x was sold as a viable update to my phone, and my older iPod Touch was upgraded automatically. Had I known it would have rendered them quite useless, I would have not agreed to the upgrade. Also, there is no way (that I can tell) to downgrade to a previous IOS (I'm not overly geeky). I am not asking for on-going support, rather that the phone that I paid for works for its lifetime. It is Apple's fault for not providing a reasonable explanation of what the consequences would be or providing an alternative to that IOS.

    What other explanation could there be for his comments?

    how about simply that he doesn't know what he's talking about. If the guy was truly in the know about deals with Apple he would know that you don't talk about Fight Club. Ever.

    Upgrading to 2GB from the 2.0Ghz model seems like a waste since you'll have to throw away perfectly good DIMMS. I hate when Apple forces one to upgrade RAM along with higher priced specs.

    No need to throw them away. There is a thing called Ebay out there ;)

    Hopefully that something invovles isight/front row displays that are more reasonable in price.

    Agreed. Dream prices:

    20"= $450
    24"=$600
    30"=$1000

    They could always fill the $2k dispay spot with a 50", HDTV Capable display that supported 20 million pixles :D

    ThinkSecret has had an awful track record the past year or so. Some people here seem to be stuck in the good old days when they were actually a reliable source. Those days are gone. Their sources dried up.

    Why would Apple announce their movie store when they don't have a decent video iPod to play them on? What has Apple been working on the past year? Larger capacities? The 5G iPods have not been updated in all this time and yet 80GB drives have been available all along. It just doesn't add up.

    very true,
    they were good before the lawsuit. Nowadays they just seem to go along all the other rumor sites and actually failing to get the rumors right.
    I am sorry for them, I would say that lately they are very close to macosrumors.com in terms of reliability.:eek:

    I'm really excited for the new features, many of which sound great, but I wonder why they couldn't just implement them into the current FCP interface? I'm a heavy Final Cut Pro user and really fast with the current application. I hate to have to learn an entirely new interface.
    Long story short the core of the current FCP code is from the late 90's and there is only so long you can keep patching and bolting things on before you have to blow it up and start from the ground up again.

    Now some said no ACD on the banner, new ACD with built in iSight anyone?

    I would say for laptops Apple is up in the top three for the best built and what not. For desk tops... ALL companies suck. The best ones are the ones you build yourself. Handsdown.

    Windows or mac. I use windows. I don't really care to much. It runs my programs and thats the only thing that matters. I don't use most of their installed programs because they suck. I use chrome as my webbrowser, VLC to play videos, iTunes for music (the halo effect. I got when I had my Ipod. Sold my iPod for School books. got a new computer and realized it was the fifth program i installed.) Open office for documents. I basically own windows for the basic ability to interact with my hardware. Other then that I don't need it.

    I do have Mac os on it, but most of the drivers don't work and i am to lazy/don't care to get ones that work for my hardware. I would love to see apple allow people to run OEM mac OS.

    Lovely. I like white iMacs so much...
    I'm a kinda nostalgic person and that white iMac is old enough to look nostalgic, but is recent enough to be still quite powerful and great to use. for me It would be perfect. looks like a 24 inch model right?

    If they are increasing distribution points, it means that Apple is producing more volume and is able to better stock each distribution point. If Apple for exMpke was shipping ten iPads per day to each best but, front think that because they are adding toys r us, that best buy is losing any of their shipments. It just means that apple is producing more product and is able to ship that product to more retailers.

    it's not all that expensive considering Apple has release three OS upgrades since XP came out at least. If you add those together it is more expensive than Vista. That's how you have to look at it

    But (as has probably been said already) you don't HAVE to buy every upgrade.

    I paid for an OS upgrade once, from Jaguar to Panther. I'm still debating whether to buy Tiger. I might just skip the Tiger generation and go directly to Leopard.

But, I really dont care. I use apple because i like it. when apple stops meeting my computer needs, i can go somewhere else, or do without.

    Oh please!

    Apples exists to compete with PCs and one of, if not THE major element of that is having the best/fastest hardware! If Apple didn't want to compete with PCs, then they wouldn't make so much out of the MGz myth and say that "Apple Mac X will outperform Wintel X, even with two thirds of the processor speed!".

    Apple needs to do something fast, beause virtually forcing schools across America to take on Macs and whining that Microsoft are big bullies isn't going to help them.

    Sorry, i'm being a bit extreme, but i wish Apple would hurry up and do something.

    PCs are the competition and releasing an update of a product every six months, while the competition is constantly updating, isn't going to work for them for much longer.

    Agreed! And one of the reasons Apple isn't working fast enough is because you're all so busy kissing their @ss! Start a petition (http://www.petitiononline.com), write an email, send a fax or even write a letter telling Apple to release the latest batch of Hardware and then get on with moving this company forward.

    It's both sad and sickening to see how many Apple fanboys are elitists who only want Apple products to be sold at upscale stores. Such fanboys want Apple products to be regarded as high-end fashion accessories and status symbols. What a shame that Apple has such a feminized culture associated with it. I miss the days when Apple products were regarded as tools for accomplishing tasks.

    Frankly, as pro-Apple as I am, I fully support the sale of this device at as many stores and outlets as possible. This device is truly for *everyone*: your 2 year-old ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT4EbM7dCMs ), your grandma, the jet-set CEO, your brother, your sister, doctors, nurses, lawyers . . . everyone. It should get as much exposure as possible for how effing brilliant this device is and how well it works. It's a tool, a toy, you name it, it's whatever you want it to be, all rolled into one beautifully designed chassis.

    As for "feminized culture" being associated with Apple products, I doubt it has anything to do with "elitism" per se. Apple tends to give technology a very "feminine" touch - meaning the products tend to have very curvy, attractive, almost sensual lines. These aren't button-festooned franken-devices with missile launchers bolted on. Attractive, minimalist design will always have some association with feminine sensibilities. This is normal.

    I am shocked to hear you say that "Apples exists to compete with PCs and one of, if not THE major element of that is having the best/fastest hardware!" Apple exists to make money, and part of that means competing with pcs. But again, the motivation is the need to make money, not to compete with pcs for the sake of competing with pcs. Not all users want more power, ease of use is more important than some. I merely suggested that this is a complex problem that requires serious marketing, not simple, uni-variable analysis (eg. faster= more market share). WHere do you consider all the factors of buying a computer? This is why you can never say which computer is "best" At work my pc is tons better than a mac, because I can run ProEngineer (a solid modeling program). At home, my mac is best, because of imovie, itunes, the os, and .mac, etc

    Why do you want apple to "hurry up and do something"? You can buy a pc if you want to.

    Don't worry.

    If the Chinese economy keeps growing at the same rate over the next decade they will be setting up manufacturing plants in the USA to take advantage of the cheap American labour. ;)

    Doubt it, American labor unions will never allow that. haha. Plus, China won't have problems finding labor in the country.
